Lotto is an 8-10 year old, 18.1 hand Belgian gelding. He was pulled from Camelot Auction on 7.29.10. He started to undergo 30 days of quarantine here at the farm when we discovered he had issues with his hind feet. They were missing the entire heel section and emitted a strong odor. He wasnt unsound but we knew there were definite issues. He was immediately hauled to our hospital vet, Curt Honacker/Valley View Animal Hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe canker in 3 of his feet. The least issue was in the front left where he only had about a 50 cent size size section of sole left. The remaining was a big cancerous tumor. His worse foot is his hind right, in which he only had less then a quarter size piece of sole remaining and tumors so large they made his heel bulb and frog non-existent. Lotto’s has been in and out of the vet hospital receiving treatments since the first week of August. He was treated first with formaldehyde after a complete re-sectioning of 3 hooves. After we noticed regrowth, he went through treatments of Liquid Nitrogen in hopes of freezing it. We thought we had beat it unril bout a month and a half later when I noticed the smell again. He was hauled back to the vets right before Thanksgiving for treatments to burn the tumors. He still remains there today as he is dealing with recurring abscesses in which the canker tumors are growing out of the holes left behind. On Friday, 1.14.11, Lotto underwent a complete re sectioning and removal of a triangular section of his hind left outer hoof wall. This was done in hopes of allowing invasive treatments, allow drainage, and stop the growth of the tumors. His hoof is currently being held together by wire lacings.
Lottos treatment is closing in on the $5000 mark. There is also a 2008 USDA/Ohio Dept of Agriculture citation against them for Non-burial of Livestock after they left a horse lying in a ditch for days unnoticed by anyone that resides at the farm -- only the children who ride the bus past the farm daily to school. There is now a report on file with the Guernsey County Sheriffs Department regarding this same individual in Summer 2010 for "Theft by Intimidation" and "Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer" for illegal removal of horses currently under the monitoring of local Humane and Law Enforcement.
