Delilah

This is a 14 year old draft cross mare (looks Clyde cross to us) who is broke to ride and drive. She will be heading to Frog Pond next week, and after evaluations and vet/farrier work, she will be ready for a new home! Watch for updates and pictures after she gets here.
Update 8/11/09:
Delilah is a super nice horse. She was a bit pushy on the ground but quickly understood what she wasn’t allowed to do. She is now walking in and out of the barn in a neck rope halter. She stands completely quiet to be fly sprayed and gets along great with others – very non-confrontational, good with the fences, but hates the bugs. She went from a fielded horse to LOVING her fan! She stalls great and isn’t messy when inside. We will continue her evaluations under saddle this weekend so watch for more pictures and video.
Update 8/21/09:
Delilah underwent her first riding evaluation. She stood quietly to be groomed, had no issues for saddling or bridling,m takes bit great, and stands to be mounted. She was a bit fresh when she first started out, giving a little buck but then settled in. She will need a rider that isn’t afraid of correcting her when she needs it. NOT for a timid rider. If you have experience riding and aren’t afraid to set limits, you will have a blast with this little mare. She is eager and forward moving. I could even see her doing some jumping with an energetic teenager. She plow reins, moves well off your leg but again, may test a bit. Would be super fun as a trail mount, because she is the type you can drop the reins with and ride along with the group without being left behind. Pretty steady on her feet. Just a really nice all around mare for whatever you choose to do!

Update: 9/5/09
Delilah was ridden in the open pasture tonight. She did quite well after her initial head tossing and “I can intimidate you” act. She doesn’t seem mean by any means, but she must have been able to do some “I can get you off me” at one time. After about 30 seconds, she settled in and did quite well. We have been riding her in a tom thumb but believe she will need a bit more bit, as she likes rolling her tongue over it. Next ride will be in a curb. All in all, she went out and walked/trotted without any incident. She will need a rider who isn’t initially timid and can make her understand it’s time to work. Once you get that, you will have an amazing little horse. Pictures of this ride are on our Facebook picture album.
